Print the Titian Templates

Hello Folks,

I have printed the Titian scroll on A4 paper at 100%, but the lower part of the neck is truncated. The entire scroll was visible when I printed it on legal paper at 100% scale, and it measures approximately 143.5 inches along the fingerboard side. I figured it should be 130.5 plus the depth of the mortise. What dimension should I have when the template is printed?

Hi Corvus,

Your diagram is explains a lot. The 130 plus the overhang of the top and the depth of the mortise

explains the 143mm on the template. This is very helpful.

I'm new to violin making but I have experience building a Spanish classical guitars and realize the importance of the nut and bridge placement.

Oh, that’s a tricky one. Look at the picture below, the 130mm is from the edge of the fingerboard to the back of the heel. Not the fingerboard side we were thinking about. This 130 is not a useful measurment tho.

Also note that the fingerboard side on some baroque violins is 130mm. But of course there are no standard size for baroque necks. :)
